D. Eric Parkison
Homestead, After
Arrival in a snowstorm, sleep
In fits and starts. Morning,
Nudging embers in the stove,
Young flame yearning in maple.
Outside, wind thrashes in a net of snow.
Around blind corners, the scything current
Sharpening the ice. Old habit of mind,
To sense myself too heavy on my frame.
D. Eric Parkison is author of the chapbook No Arcadia and recipient of a Robert Pinsky Global Fellowship as well as a 2022 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant in poetry. His work has appeared recently in Comstock Review, Hawk & Whippoorwill, Belletrist 7: The Unsaid, and the Astorian. He is a union member and educator and lives with his family in Lynn, MA.
