The Firth
in the fog,
the light is
everywhere
air radiant
and wool-colored,
a linen bier.
fragrant with seagrass
the heron
forms
slight,
stark, lancing
time rippling
around two black apostrophes—now
the firth glowing with sky
the heron a dark shiver of mirror
I, the incandescent
stranger.
